Lucas Herbert narrowly missed out on making history during Round 2 at The Open. He missed a 5ft putt on the 18th which would have meant he would have been the first player to shoot 61 at a mens major. Not to be outdone Sam Burns chipped in from the bunker on the 18th which meant he also shot 62, equalling The Open record.

There are 412 entries remaining in the hunt for the £16,300 prize pot after 1,401 were cut at the half way stage. Tom takes a one shot lead into the third round with David and Jim only a couple of shots behind. The leaderboard looked very different last night but Bryson DeChambeau was given a two shot penalty and has threatened to withdraw from the competition. This would mean a further 8 entries would be out, including 2 of the top 10!

With 77% of the entries being cut at the half way, the most notable players who missed the cut were Matt Fitzpatrick – 16 (376), Justin Rose – 28 (195), Brian Harman – 100 (171), Tom Kim – 50 (149), Wyndham Clark – 33 (143), Viktor Hovland – 33 (136), Aaron Rai – 55 (97) and Akshay Bhatia – 110 (91).
