Round 1 proved to be tricky for the majority of the field with only 18 out of the 90 golfers finishing under par for the day. Sung-Jae Im (8 selections) is leading the way on -5 with Sandy Lyle +10 bringing up the rear (thankfully no one selected him!). It was also great to see the reception Tiger got on his return to golf after his horrific accident a year ago.
After a late withdrawal from Paul Casey, it was over before it even begun for 59 entries (including 2 of my own) who will all be refunded (please can the entries with Paul Casey respond to my email yesterday with bank details – only 15 or so outstanding).
As a result, the total entries has reduced to 415 and therefore reducing the prize pot to £3,750.
Top 10
After Round 1 the top 10 is as follows:
1st – Paul Whiteside 2 -8

3rd – Matt Evans -7 (-4, -3)
4th – Alex Duckett -7 (-4, -2, -1)

7th – Joshua Wilson -6 (-4, -3, +1)
7th – Adam Weston 3 -6 (-4, -3, +1)
7th – Alan McGreevy -6 (-4, -3, +1)
There are 8 other entries who are on -6, 13 entries on -5 and 17 entries on -4 so it is very tight at the top, Round 2 could see the leaderboard change quickly!
The entries with Thomas (68!!!), Oosthuizen (39), Rose (21), Si Woo Kim (16), Pieters (16), DeChambeau (12), Molinari (11), List (6), Wolff (5) and Young (3) will all be sweating today as they all scored +4 or worse and look like the missing the cut based on yesterday’s scoring but only time will tell!

Shot of the Day
Shot of the day goes to Joaquin Niemann for his Eagle on 9th hole, he used spin and the slope perfectly to guide the ball back to the hole.
