An eventful first day at The Masters 2023. Rory with his usual tactics on day 1 and some great scoring from Rahm, Koepka and Hovland. There was a wide range of scores, the three leaders are on -7 and Sandy Lyle is bringing up the rear on +9.

The new withdrawal replacement (WR) option came in handy for 38 of the entrants due to 2 late withdrawals (Will Zalatoris and Aaron Wise). In addition Rickie Fowler, Marc Leishman, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Paul Casey and Webb Simpson all failed to qualify for the competition.

Will Zalatoris had been selected by 48 entries and the 38 who opted for WR will be over the moon as they got Sam Burns as the replacement as next on the list. The 10 entries without WR will be refunded.

Aaron Wise had been selected by 4 entries who all opted for WR and they got Si Woo Kim as the replacement as next on the list.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout had been selected by 1 entry who opted for WR and got Seamus Power as the replacement as next on the list.

Marc Leishman had been selected by 2 entries; only 1 opted for WR and got Chris Kirk as the replacement as next on the list. The other entry without WR will be refunded.

Rickie Fowler had been selected by 6 entries who all opted for WR and got Brooks Koepka (lucky them!) as the replacement as next on the list.

Paul Casey had been selected by 4 entries who all opted for WR and got Sergio Garcia as the replacement as next on the list.

Webb Simpson had been selected by 1 entry who opted for WR and got K H Lee as the replacement as next on the list.

Unfortunately, the 8 entries with Kevin Na are out of the competition with no refund as he withdrew after teeing off.

As a result, the total entries have reduced to 1196 and therefore reducing the prize pot to £10,900 which will be split as follows:

1 – £8,200

2 – £2,150

3 – £550

The entries with Champ (15), Higa (1), Hughes (9), Oosthuizen (47), Harman (17), Sargent (2), Watson (32), Noren (14) will all be sweating today as they all scored +4 or worse and have a battle on their hands to avoid missing the cut.
